Charity

We cannot solve all the problems of the world but we can, at least, all try and do our bit; The Property Merchant Group has a long tradition of charitable support.

The Property Merchant Group recently hosted The Property Comic, two evenings of stand-up comedy at 295 Regent Street, sponsored by Property Week to raise funds for LandAid (www.landaid.org), the main property charity, supporting the homeless. Two further evenings are planned for 22nd and 23rd September and it is intended to make it an annual event - www.pmguk.com/comic.

The Property Merchant Group actively encourages members of its team to participate in supporting charities. Literally weeks after joining The Property Merchant Group, James Fenwick was delegated, by James Bowdidge, to run the London Marathon, which he successfully completed in 4 hours 59 minutes, raising a total of over £14,000 for MENCAP; James subsequently completed the Blenheim Triathlon, in 1 hour and 40 minutes, the Royal Parks Half Marathon raising £2,000 for The MS Society and, in 2007 he completed the Three Peaks Challenge for Anthony Nolan Trust.

Richard Burge completed the 300 mile Big Battlefield Bike Ride for Help for Heroes in 2008, raising over £7,500, in addition to The Property Merchant Group’s own substantial direct donation. Help for Heroes is the charity established to raise funds for “our boys”, providing rehabilitation and support to those injured on active service, particularly in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Charles Curtis was recently a member of a team playing five rounds of golf at five clubs, raising over £30,000 for Norwood, supporting children, families and adults coping with learning difficulties and social disadvantages.

James Bowdidge serves as a Vice President of The Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust, having formerly been a Trustee, and Chairman of the Funding & Membership, and London Committees. The Trust has an annual income in the region of £6 million, much of it raised through fundraising activities. He is also a Founder Director of Reading Real Estate Foundation, whose objects include the support of real estate education at the University of Reading; The Property Merchant Group has made a substantial donation to the charity to assist in the construction of the new Real Estate & Planning Faculty in the Henley Business School at the University. He is also the brains behind The Property Comic.
